Issues

  • Aiding America's Military
"With hundreds of thousands of our military personnel stationed around the world today in the war on terrorism, it is imperative that Congress do all that it can to ease the burdens that they and their loved ones face back at home. Equally important is ensuring that they have the resources available to them to do their job. Finally, as we enter another round of base closing, we must fight to keep Georgia’s 13 military installations open, as they are critical to protecting America."

  • Balancing Growth and Quality of Life
"As our state continues to grow, we must act now to ensure our infrastructure keeps up with our population. A high quality of life makes Georgia attractive to new families and businesses. Only by making balanced investments in education, healthcare, greenspace, and transportation now can we ensure the needs of the future are met."

  • Creating Jobs
"When it comes to economic prosperity, no one should be left behind. America’s continued economic growth and prosperity is incumbent upon cutting taxes and removing barriers to sustained growth. By voting to improve Georgia's infrastructure we are creating thousands of high-paying jobs. Furthermore, we must invest in our workforce with continuing education initiatives, job training initiatives, better health care, and tax relief. Like President Bush, I believe we must continue to be concerned about the economy until every American who wants to work can find work. Finally, we must work to reign in uncontrolled federal spending, a drag on America’s economy."

  • Educating Every Child
"As Chairman of the State Board of Education, I worked to bring more local control and flexibility to Georgia’s classrooms whether public, private or home school. Every child deserves a quality education."

  • Effective and Affordable Health Care
"Americans enjoy the highest quality health care the world has ever seen. However, we must continue to work on great affordability and access. As we look for ways to improve the system, we should ensure that the needs of patients and the wisdom of health care providers guide our policy decisions."

  • Ending Frivolous Lawsuits
"Frivolous lawsuits against small businesses, manufacturers, and doctors hurt all Americans by slowing economic growth and driving up the costs of goods and services. For example, it is ridiculous to force a restaurant to pay millions when a customer at a drive through spills hot coffee in their lap. We need to shut the door on these lawsuits."

  • Fighting for Georgia's Veterans
"All of us owe America’s veterans a debt of gratitude for their service both at home and abroad, in peace and in wartime. We must make sure that our veterans have access to all the benefits they earned during their service. Our nation must continue to honor and care for veterans who have suffered as a result of their service, as well as their surviving family members. For the brave men and women who have defended and continue to defend our freedom, nothing less will do."

  • Life Issues
"I have a deep respect for life, and a voting record that reflects that respect. I am personally opposed to abortion except in cases of rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother. I strongly support President Bush's view that we need to create a culture of life in America. A key step in this process is appointing federal judges who understand that laws are made in the Congress, not in the courthouse."

  • Protecting the Homeland
"Since 9/11, the United States has faced new threats at home and abroad. These threats force us as Americans to make a choice- we can live in fear or we can be prepared. Since terrorists act on their timetable and not ours, we must not be complacent in securing the Homeland. This includes making our borders secure and performing stronger background checks on individuals coming into our country. Locally, we need to ensure that our medical facilities have adequate resources to respond to an attack and that our first responders have all that they need to keep Georgia’s families safe. When we secure the hometown, we secure the Homeland."

  • Protecting the Second Amendment
"We need criminal control not gun control. We should not only support gun ownership, shooting sports, and hunting, we should encourage them. One of our most cherished freedoms as Americans is our right to keep and bear arms, and we must never let anyone threaten it."

  • Building Security for Seniors
"Our seniors have worked hard to build a better America for all of us. The senior citizen population has become the fastest growing demographic group in the United States. We must work to modernize Medicare and Social Security, so that it efficiently serves the generation that needs it the most. We must also continue looking for new opportunities to benefit from the wisdom of Georgia seniors."

  • Serving Rural Georgia
"Agribusiness has long been the heart of Georgia’s economy. With strong leadership, we can nourish Georgia's agricultural roots and bring the fruits of economic growth to every community in our state. Georgia’s economic development will not be complete until economic prosperity and opportunity is found in every community in our state."

  • Standing Up for Traditional Values
"Our nation was founded on strong moral values and a respect for God. I have always been, and will continue to be, committed to protecting the free exercise of religion and ending government hostility to traditional values."

  • Tax Relief for all Tax Payers
"Taxpayers' money performs best in the hands of the people who earned it. Lowering taxes and reforming our tax structure are vital steps to stimulate our economy and expand our job base."
